The Boston Bruins played the Ottawa Senators on Saturday and managed to notch another 2 points.
Trent Frederic, in his second game back from a concussion, had a lot to celebrate. For sure, he was glad to see old buddy Brady Tkachuk on the other side of the rink. But most importantly, he lit the lamp just 45 seconds into the game.
Quite the start for Boston.

One-time Senator and current Bruin, Curtis Lazar scored against the team that drafted him.

That’s it. All the goals.
Jeremy Swayman turned away all 30 shots on goal for his second shutout of the season.

Jack Ahcan was called up from Providence to fill in for an injured Matt Grzelcyk. In the first period, he received a high, late hit from Austin Watson while handling a puck in the corner.

Watson received a call from NHL DOPS who suspended on top of the in-game minor penalty.

Ahcan was not injured on the play and was able to play 15:15 of the game.
Tomorrow night, the Bruins will play against the Rangers in Madison Square Garden.
Happy Valentines Day. I forgot to make cookies. Maybe I’ll do that today.
I just realized that the Russsian women’s hockey team got knocked out of the quarter-finals of the Olympics by Switzerland, a bottom-3 team, who the US beat 8-0 and the Canadians beat 12-1 in the preliminary round.
My joy is shameful.
I will consider it a consolation prize in case the Canadians kick the Americans butts in the Gold medal game.
This actually puts Switzerland in contention for the Bronze.
Ok, I officially hate February.
I mean, I like the Superb Owl, and I don’t mind a little valentine’s day, but this is when the winter really starts to get to me.
We’re running out of fuel to heat the house, and we’ve got a pellet stove, so I need to order a shipping pallet full of pellets. But I need it to be delivered somewhat close to the house, so they drive a pallet truck up the hill of our driveway. Lowes is really good about that, but I need to plan around the weather, because I can’t ask a guy to drive up a steep hill covered in ice or packed snow. I delayed last week because I couldn’t get the ice cleared out in a timely manner. Then the next date was this morning, but I had to delay again, because the latest snow was going to keep going until this morning.
Also, we got a bunch o’ snow going into last week end. Very difficult to clean up because the bottom was icy, like crunchy cement. I cleared off the cars, and all the stuff I knocked off fell in piles on the driveway, and instantly froze onto the crunchy mess on either side of the cars.
After finally getting some warm weather, I was able to clean up the most traveled icy spots. But there’s a bunch of snow still on the lawn and snow banks flanking the drive. Well, the dog has to do his business somewhere. So he drags me into the trees around the yard, and I continuously get smacked in the head by branches which are several inches lower because of the snow I’m walking on. Due to the warming, there is an icy coat on all that snow, then we get a fresh pile of fluffy snow on top of it. Now when the dog drags me out, I’m hard pressed to keep from slipping & falling on the hidden ice. Yesterday, I went out to pick up one of Boomer’s yard deposits, and I bring a small container of old tomato sauce, with the intention of disposing of it. I walk out onto the yard, and slip & fall on the ice, spilling the sauce spectacularly.*
The next time I take Boomer out, he’s licking at something on the ground – it’s the biggest of the frozen puddles of sauce from the previous evening.
Then this morning, I get up early & spend an hour cleaning up the latest snow. I was expecting 3-4 inches, but we got 7. Great. I hop i the car to get a coffee & donuts, and I keep smelling something vaguely familiar, then I realize that there are splatters of tomato sauce dried onto both of my coat sleeves.

After being out for some 45 minutes, I get back home, and there’s an inch of snow on the driveway again, having blown down from the trees.
*No, really, exactly like that. Now picture having a poorly covered styrofoam cup of tomato sauce in one hand.
I can see how that would get old quick. Only two more weeks and it’s officially spring, right?
Meteorogical spring in a couple weeks. March 21st or 22nd is the calendar spring. Last year May 15th was actual spring
Oof. That’s brutal. Warmer days coming this week, tho. I hope you can get your pellets. I do recommend some yaktraks or similar. Thawing and freezing season. Lots of ice.
Morning all. So I started off my Saturday by spilling my entire cup of coffee.

I need to watch the Halftime Show at some point. Heard it was really good. Did see some pics of Mary J. Blige. I think it’s impossible for her to not look stunning.
The BBC website gave it a rave review
I enjoyed it – though I really needed to run it through a better sound system.
She had mirror glass leopard spots. It was a great look.
I enjoyed the show and how it flowed.
I was totally going to wear my mirror glass leopard spot outfit today but it was just too cold this morning.
Did not see any football, but halftime show sounds like a good idea
Watched Harvard vs Quinnipiac women’s hockey saturday. I remembered Lindsay Reed from The Hotchkiss School. A 6 foot tall very athletic goalie. Refs tend to talk to goalies as we are always retrieving the puck from them and are close to action around the nets. This kid was so friendly. I remember when she came back from a gold medal performance at the u-18 world’s in Moscow. She traveled 36 hours straight, got back to campus a couple hours before next game and said “put me in, coach”. He told me about it before the game and told me no way she was playing. She must have made a good case as she started and won.
Wow! Oh to be young again. Although I don’t think I ever had that much energy!
Currently watching USA Women v Finland with Arabic commentary, because that’s the only feed I can find!
Hockey translates well.
“Finland” in Arabic seems to be “Al Finland”!
Apparently the Swedish pronunciation of “good speed” sounds like “bra farts”!
Oh, I knew Al Finland! He used to run a pawn shop on 38th street.
Al Finland? Oh, he and i went to different schools together.
Jaromir Jagr on turning 50 and still playing. the man, the myth, the legend!
Feel a bit sorry for him – apparently he thinks if he stops playing the club will fold and that will finish off his Dad. He obviously still enjoys it though.
Always thought he’d make a great coach – he has such a high hockey IQ and completely dedicated. Surely he’d still draw the crowds if he was behind the bench.
Yeah, not all the great players make great coaches. Mostly the great coaches had to work hard and do little things right to make it as players so they get it. Jagr is the exception.
Good morning!
The Tootsies have been playing good hockey lately, so a good two points. Ottawa beat the Caps 4 – 1 last night. Any points gained right now are good points.
Quiet weekend. Game night with neighbors. Boating on Friday wore me out! I’ll get back out mid week when it warms up again…. 5°f right now
Me, turning on the Bruins v Ottawa game after the Bruins have already scored:
“How nice, the NHL has scheduled a scrimmage game while the Bruins are missing 3 core players”
Me, seeing the score of the Ottawa v Capitals game:
But yes, they actually have been playing some surprisingly good hockey. But I’m never not gonna laugh when they beat a team that annoys me.
Morning all,
Did the Sens fans boo Lazar’s goal? Hahaha.
Yes, happy Valentine’s if you are celebrating. I completely forgot about it until I went to the supermarket to pick up some breakfast bits this morning. Sonia forgot it until it was mentioned on the radio. We are so romantic!
We did have a nice evening on Saturday though, we had both been out for the day and met up in west London. Walked past the pub where we had our first date almost 18 years ago so we went in for a drink. Unlike most things in London it hadn’t changed at all! We’re also having a day out on Wednesday as Leah is up at my parents for the week.

That is awesome, not to mention romantic!
We were going to do valentine dinner at a great farm to table place in Greenfield, but our neighbors left us a bunch of seafood so we stayed home and ate that. Neighbor explained that he is Portuguese, so he has to cook five times as much food as necessary every time.
Ah nice! Not had a lot of Portuguese grub apart from Piri Piri chicken!
Just before the pandemic we went to a Peruvian place and ordered the seafood platter for two – it would’ve easily fed three or four! Really good though.
I love Peruvian food! Gimme some ceviche and papas a la huaracanada right now!
oooh, ceviche!
He’s more than welcome to be my neighbor!
That is very romantic!
IW won VD this year because I completely blanked on it. I even got flowers from Boomer!
NIce to have a date at that pub again. Have fun this week.
