Morning Free Association: On to Game 2

It’s hard to not panic after seeing the way the Hurricanes blew the Bruins away the other night. It looked very similar to the regular season meetings between these two teams in which the Canes vastly outscored the Bruins. But it’s no time to panic yet. I mean, I bet that the Lightning are not panicking after losing their first game against the Leafs without even scoring one goal.

Tonight is Game 2 and the Bruins have a chance to get right back in this series. The positives to take away from the first game were in their defensive game. Between blocked shots and thwarting scoring chances in the first period and 16 minutes of the second, the Bruins were dictating the game with a huge amount of possession time in the first frame. However, the Canes scored twice in the waning minutes of the second to go into the third with a 2-0 lead. While Boston managed to come within 1, that was the only goal they scored. On special teams, they held the Canes power play to no goals on the man advantage.

Offensively, the Bruins were not shy shooting the puck. And there were rebounds. However, both Bruce Cassidy and the players have identified the lack of second effort down in front of the net as a problem that prevented them from scoring more. Like a player would take a shot, Raanta would have a rebound, but there wasn’t a net presence of Bruins players to get the puck in.

I hope that tonight they can fix that.

For Game 2, Cassidy has decided to keep Ullmark in net and switch around the top 2 defensive pairs: promoting Matt Grzelcyk to Charlie McAvoys left side and placing Hampus Lindholm with Brandon Carlo. He feels that Lindholm will give that pair breakout ability while the Grizz-Chuckie combo works well in a similar way.

Tonight’s game is on NESN and ESPN at 7pm.

Morning all. Happy Star Wars Day. To celebrate, we should all watch the greatest PSA ever made:

Not sure they should be encouraging folks to drop lit cigarettes on the ground, though. Especially indoors!

Morning folks,

The scoreline wasnt reflective, and while the Canes did deserve to win, the Bs showed enough to suggest they can win a couple of games this series. Hopefully the next two, and then anything can happen from there!

Good morning,
Watching the Rags/ Guins game…. there is some great playoff hockey happening…. maybe the Bs can play 60 minutes of it tonight. They have given Raanta his first ever playoff win, now they can abuse him.
Blues/ Wild is a great series, very physical.
Day off today as carpenter has other work… I need it.

That Rags/Pens OT game was something.
Shesterkin has been excellent all year, so it’s no surprise that he’s the guy who came out with a ‘2nd most saves in NHL history’ game.
