The Boston Bruins have a list of candidates that they will interview for their coaching vacancy. Curiously enough, Barry Trotz is not one of the candidates. Neither is my favorite (chaotic) candidate, John Tortorella, who seems to be the new HC for the Philadelphia Flyers. Gritty is going to love him.
**Breaking News** 🚨📰
I’m told the @NHLFlyers have offered their HC position to John Tortorella. More negotiations required for deal to be completed. @GrittyNHL over to you ! @NHL @StanleyCup #HockeyTwitter pic.twitter.com/ibAi51BoFf— Kevin Weekes (@KevinWeekes) June 15, 2022
So here’s the list of interviewees for the Bruins.
The Boston Bruins have responded to Bruce Cassidy’s hiring by expanding coaching options. The list now reads:
– David Quinn
– Nate Leaman
– Jay Leach
– Brian Gionta
– Lee Stempniak
– Marc Savard
– Sam Adams*
– Paul Revere**Sammy Adams

Oops, that’s not it although I would rather a couple of those guys just for funzies.
Jim Montgomery, Jay Leach, Joe Sacco, Spencer Carbery and David Quinn are scheduled to interview with the Bruins.

So, Bruins Network broke down some of the candidates for us all.
First up, Jim Montgomery.
Montgomery also went 125-57-26 for Denver in the NCAA. He’s got a really solid track record in high-level hockey, including recently playing for the Blues. For what it’s worth, I’ve heard players really like him and he would probably be a solid fit here. #NHLBruins

Next, the strong contender of former P-Bruins coach, Jay Leach.
Leach, as head coach of Providence, finished his seasons with .625, .572, .661 and .680 PTS% respectfully. He’s had his hand in developing various NHL players so far, like Zboril, Clifton, Frederic, Steen, Lauzon, Vladar, Kuhlman and Vaakanainen. #NHLBruins

Longtime Bruins assistant coach long removed from his coaching stint with the Avs.
Joe Sacco, no disrespect to him, but I truly don’t believe he’s a legitmate candidate for this position, nor should the Bruins be promoting him for it. I don’t see how that’s much of a different voice from Cassidy as he was on his bench the whole time. #NHLBruins

Current Toronto assistant with a long coaching record, Spencer Carbery.
Carbery has worked his way up from the ECHL, to the AHL and now the NHL with Toronto as an Assistant Coach. His record as HC of Hershey saw him with a .618, .653, .758 PTS% respectfully. He’ll be in the NHL as a head coach sooner than later, IMO. #NHLBruins

Rhode Islander and former Boston University and New York Rangers coach, David Quinn. It should be noted that Quinn coached both Grzelcyk and McAvoy.
Quinn probably wouldn’t be my first choice, but after speaking to various people in the hockey realm who are much smarter than me, I wouldn’t hate the move. Keep in mind as well, Quinn is from my hometown and I know plenty of people close to him. He’s highly regarded. #NHLBruins

Last note on Quinn: The fact that Detroit has him on their list and interviewed him last week should also be seen as a positive. We all praise Stevie Y as a heralded, world-class GM, right? It’s a good sign that he’s drawing interest from him, IMO. #NHLBruins

It will be interesting to see who they hire and who really wants the job. I’m still mad at Sweeney and Neely and have little hope they’ll hire the right guy right now.
Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee…………..my cohost tested positive for Covid today.
Oh, sorry to hear that. It’s so frustrating that it’s still out there everywhere.
Now every time I eat a dry cracker and start coughing, I’ll think I got COVID for a few moments.
Morning all. Thursday already? I like these short weeks!
I’m working five days this week. Disgrace! No jubilees or anything!
Oh the humanity!!
And I heard London is supposed to be scorching hot today!
Yes – roasting! And yesterday was a scorcher too. We’re meant to have a nice storm at the weekend, though …
Well that pretty much says it – Sweeneely are planning to tank next season. Those are disposable coaches – none of them are in a position to push back against the front office, even if they disagree with the direction (don’t bother to win, just develop players). If the new coach works out, it’s wonderful, if they don’t, well, they can grab a different candidate next offseason.
I wonder if they’re waiting for Bergy’s decision. Can’t imagine they’d tank if he decided to stay for one more year.
Or do they already know his decision? …
BervvP0’s decision may be known…or maybe they want to make the decision for him
Good morning!
Jay Leach would be my first choice, but is he a different voice? To me it isn’t the coach that’s the problem. Need players!
What a game last night. Vasielievsky was a lil shaky in the first, and you could probably hang the L on him. Hoping for a long series of great hockey.
Ah! I was wondering how it turned out. I fell asleep before OT.
To me this series is about the Avs speed, especially on the back end vs the Bolts ability to win puck battles and their poise. I think Tampa can do it. Their coaching staff makes a difference
One interesting thing I unearthed while researching this series is that Tampa don’t have a very good record in game ones. After last night they’re 1-4 in game one of the SCF.
Granted most of those were years ago and effectively different teams, but they also got blown out in their game ones against the Leafs and Rags this year (5-0 & 6-2).
I’ll stick with Tampa to turn it around..
Yeah, it seems like it takes them a couple of games to really get the sense of how to play an opponent. Maybe their coaches figure out matchups to take advantage of or vulnerabilities?
