Morning Free Association: Some Actual Bruins News

Before I get into ACTUAL BRUINS NEWS, I’d like to say congratulations to the Colorado Avalanche for preventing the evil that is the Tampa Bay Threepeat. With this dastardly deed thwarted, we can go on with our lives. Suck it, Bolts!

Now onto matters closer to home. Late last week, word came out that Patrice Bergeron was nearing an extension for the next year.

And then after the shittiness of the day on Friday, I really hoped that the news would come out then if nothing other than distraction. But, it was not to be.

Yes, he was on vacation with the family. That’s good. They deserve it.

In the meantime, the Bruins quietly re-signed GM Don Sweeney.

Finally, some updates on the head coaching vacancy. At least two candidates interviewed last week.

Then on Sunday, Steve Conroy of the Boston Herald reported that David Quinn interviewed again on Saturday. And confirmed it was a second interview.

All of this news is trickling out so slowly. Perhaps the Bruins will hire someone before training camp starts in September.

Morning all. SatanParents dropped of SatanDog for her sleepover yesterday. Nugget is not the most welcoming of hosts and has declared that SatanDog is not allowed in the bedroom.

Poor Vana, getting bullied!

I’ve been watching a bit of baseball recently. That celebration they do – extending thumb and little finger and tap the top of their head – what’s that about?

Vana’s been good about it. She just turns around and goes back to the living room. I also think Nugget is bit jealous that she doesn’t have my sole attention.

I haven’t actually watched any baseball this season so I’m not sure what that is all about. Probably just silly fun team stuff.

Oh! Dogs… we are getting Guapo Diablo! Guapo Diablo is Maddie’s dog, a miniature schnauser. I guess there are multiple dogs and children at the in laws summer home in Wells Beach, ME. One condition… we want Maddie, too! That ain’t happening, but we can dream, eh?

Handsome Devil eh?

Next door have gone on holiday but left the dags. They have a relative staying overnights and there’s a flap in the door so they can get into the garden. The dogs usually try to get underneath the garden gate when we’re outside, so I expect we’ll let them pay a visit at some point!

Handsome devil, yes! I contributed to the name, as you might expect. The in laws also had input as Maddie’s paternal grandmother is Cuban. She contributed Guapo…. knowing puppies i added Diablo. Only fitting the dog winds up with me… i see a personal floatation device in his future!

David Quinn was a teen phenom. From Rhode Island, he played his high school at the Kent School. I was not reffing that level of hockey yet, but coached a youth team that used the Kent School rink. Highly touted and drafted 13th overall in 1984, his playing career was nixed by a blood disease. His blood doesn’t clot well. A student of the game, he can get the x’s and o’s done. He still can’t actually play, so the Bs would need to improve the stable if Quinn is going to win the Cup derby someday

Good morning,
Congrats to the Avs. They were the better team. I confess that i wanted to see the threepeat. Those core guys on Tampa are warriors. They go about their business in Bergy like fashion… that’s the highest compliment i can pay to a hockey player.
On to the Bs! Sweeney is back. Hopefully, he can be better. The Bs are always in a tough spot as they compete every year… that means no high draft picks and trading the piss poor picks you have to remain competitive. That’s a tough row to hoe, no matter who you are. I guess we are hoping Lysell can make the jump to the bigs, the Bs can sign an effective free agent or four, and that Jesus can play second line center. That oughta do it!
A lil gardening and back to work today! Anyone seen my garden twine? The tomato plants, they need a lil support (kinda like Swayman and Ulmark).

David Quinn?
Well if he was good enough for the Rags, then he’s good enough for the B’s

(…checks notes…) Ok, it turns out that he was _not_ good enough for the Rags.

Well, this sounds less promising.

Morning folks,

Don’t know much about Quinn but if he’s been Team USA coach that means he must have experience with teams made up of kids and veterans so he should be ok?

Congrats to the Avalanche. Corey Perry does indeed become the first to lose in three straight SCF with three different teams. If you can’t beat em, join em. And lose again.

Friday night was the end-of-season bash for our darts league. There’s an American guy plays for one of the teams and his brother and nephew were over for a holiday, from Washington. The nephew plays hockey. Ovechkin turns up at their practice rink from time to time, and the kid has a photo of himself with Tom Wilson…

That’s pretty cool that he gets to bump into NHL guys from time to time.

NHL players are the best! Always seem to find time for people who dig the game!
