For many years, and all of my teenage years, this was the signal that we were hitting the weekend running. I listened to WBRU because they played all the stuff I discovered while watching V66 and later 120 Minutes on MTV. At the time that I started to enjoy and understand The Cure, Depeche Mode, The Smiths, and New Order among others, I found BRU and that became my radio station. Many other alternative stations would come and go in the ensuing years and none of them had the staying power of the former college station up the radio dial. As it was Brown University’s radio station, many of the DJs were communications majors getting some real work experience.
As my musical tastes changed and the alternative scene changed and after I moved, I no longer listened. Still I was surprised that the frequency was sold to a Contemporary Christian station in 2017. But WBRU lives on in the internet and on a low frequency station out of Providence.
Since it’s Friday and we do not live in the past, I want to take this time to point out this months calendar girl, Darla Forbort. Sure she shares the month with her father, Sister’s favorite player Derek Forbort, but make no mistake: she’s the star.
It's hot, there's no Bruins news, and we're waiting for some important contracts. But, the one thing we can celebrate this month is #Darla! Darla and her dad Derek Forbort are August #adoptseniordogs #bassethounds pic.twitter.com/f8aYhdyD2C

She’s the cutest. Don’t tell Boomer.
Morning all.
Friday!
One more day of work tomorrow then time to chill!
Today is gonna tax me. Fridays are the hardest, because I lose a little sleep each work-day, so by Friday, my ass is always dragging. Then on Saturday I end up taking a nap to catch up.
Morning,
Darla is very sweet.
I remember 120 minutes, but my favourite show was Rock Block. I’ve tried to find reruns online but to no avail …
Holiday continues. Another hot one today. I’ve been learning new card games: Jolik (joker), Autobus, Canasta. All popular Slovak card games seem to use two packs with the jokers left in. Interesting!
I need a trip to that ice cave!
The ice cave was indeed, very cool! It was a hot day but walking up to the mouth of the cave it was like someone switched on the air con!
120 minutes was usually pretty good, though it definitely varied in quality over time.
Think I’m gonna need you in the F1 Twitter chat at some point, I have emotions that need processing!
Even if it’s true I reckon he’ll land somewhere. He’s a PR dream and a race winner as recently as last year. As long as he doesnt price himself out of a job.
Our radio stays on the left side of the dial. WPKN 89.5fm, WHUS 93.1, WXCI 91.7 (the adventure jukebox was awesome! Check out pkn online wpkn.org. A little of everything
I learned how to play Canasta with my SIL grandmother back in 1984 when I was in Maine for the summer. Not coastal Maine, like in the middle of nowhere Maine.
Good morning,
It’s vacay day! Leaving about 8. Lots to do… i should pack soon. We haven’t camped in awhile. Sleeping in the van this time, even though we have a tent. Keeping it simple.
Not much Bruin news. Jonathan Huberdeau signed an 8 year deal with the Flames… 10.5 million per season. That’s 14% of the cap, more or less. I guess Pasta’s extension will be in the 9 million neighborhood…. nice neighborhood!
Yeah, I think we have to expect that. As you pointed out yesterday, the Bruins have a lot of sweet deals at the moment.
Enjoy the camping. Is your van big enough to take kayaks and fishing gear?
We decided to leave the kayaks at home this time, but we can carry a lot. Our 13’ canoe fits inside!

You can fit your canoe inside the van? Dang!
I have mine hanging under my deck, and hit my head on it regularly. (Granted, it is a larger canoe)
I struggle to get 8-foot planks into the Rav4. They end up resting on the center armrest between the two front seats, menacing the car radio.
It’s a cargo van!
