Are there cracks in the foundation or just the façade of the Boston Bruins? In the past 11 days, they’ve lost at home twice in the shootout. But last night’s loss was a hell of a lot uglier than the one to the Vegas Golden Knights.
After a scoreless first period, the Bruins put up two on the scoreboard before the halfway point, well kinds; Brad scored at 10:02. First it was Taylor Hall on the power play. I say it was a power play in that it was a delayed penalty, Linus Ullmark fled the ice to bring on the 6th skater (Bergeron). Before the Kings could touch the puck, Hall hit the back of the net.

Brad Marchand was in the midst a five-game pointless streak before he lit the lamp.
David Pastrnak feared for his life when Brad Marchand fired off this puck.

Then the third period came and the Kings came back to tie it up before the end of regulation. The Bruins had a power play that spanned the third and extra periods with no results. In fact, not much happened in that OT except for Brad Marchand extending Seasons Greetings to old pal, Philip Danault.

Then the players were judged upon their skills. While the first four shooters succeeded, it would take several more rounds for Trevor Moore to crack Ullmark. Kings win in the shootout, 3-2.
I have one takeaway from Bruins shootouts on NESN: Jack Edwards has become an unreliable narrator. Last night he failed to correctly state the disposition of the puck on the second shooter, Gabriel Vilardi, leading the audience to believe that Ullmark stopped it. Indeed he did not. This isn’t the only time he’s done this, either. Last week he stammered over some as well. His play by play is baffling and uninformative and if he’s going through some kind of problem, I’ll understand, but right now it just seems like he’s lost any touch he’s had.
On NESN after the game, Taylor Hall seemed to indicate that perhaps a lack of practice has caught up to the Bruins. It’s been difficult as the team just got home from a road swing with little time to recuperate before facing off against the Islanders on Tuesday night. Jim Montgomery has done a good job of lessening the work load on some of the older players but this mad stretch before the holiday break is causing the Bruins to look, well, mortal. I guess it’s good that they’ll be able to beat a dead horse, aka the Columbus Blue Jackets in a HUGE MANATEE game on Saturday.
Morning all.
This week has definitely been a struggle. Very much looking forward to curling up in bed tonight and watching a movie.
You need to have the rest of the day off to snuggle with Nugget! Tell the boss Dr Stripes prescribed it’
Good morning,
A lil wake up call for the Bs. They did the proverbial foot thing. They are human. This game seemed like it could turn into a blow out, but the Bs let LA hang around too long. It’s a long season. Stuffs gonna happen.
BTW, the radio guy struggled with the Vilardi attempt, too. I haven’t watched it, but it was an awkward moment even on radio. Jo and i have already decided that the we would listen to Judd Sirott over Jack anyday. LB, odds on Jack finishing the season?
Snowmaggedon is happening. We’ll be snuggled up next to the fire all day. Yay!
I used to have a great app for listening to radio sports broadcasts but it disappeared. I guess it maybe wasn’t entirely kosher.
Is Jack really that bad? I know he’s always been a very divisive character. Announcer is pretty much a job for life isn’t it?!
I find that most radio stations can be accessed from their own websites. I’ve had problems with apps like TuneIn. The Bruins are on 98.5fm the sports hub. I listen to a lot of college radio. The variety is great. I’ve found it is always better to go to a station’s website feed.
Jack’s play-by-play is slowly getting less informative over time. It’s not generally horrible or anything, but he’s missing more goal calls and describing the action on the ice less usefully.
If he’s not suffering from a health problem (which GH & DrHandgrenaid seem to think he is), I don’t see NESN moving on from him – certainly not before the end of the season. He’s ~65 years old, so unless his commentary gets noticeably worse or he has a couple more gaffes like the fat-shaming one, I expect him to be able to retire on his own terms.
Firing Jack would be an unnecessary distraction for the team. Although they are super focused, why mess with it before seasons end?
It’s a winter wonderland here as well!
So far not snow but rain out here

Which is much easier to manage
We’re due a deluge over the weekend. That’ll get rid of the ice that’s still lingering after last weekend’s blizzard!
All of our weekend snow did wash away overnight, so there is that.
We still had a couple inches, we’ve added 7 or 8! Loving it!
Morning all,
Busy day so I only had time to catch the highlights. Virtually the whole highlights package someone was on powerplay, so I guess it was a messy match?
So did the Bs get over confident and take their foot off the gas? Despite having the best third-period goal differential they seem to have been pretty vulnerable in the final 20mins of late.
Good fun night at the department work party, which was a game of minigolf and a bit of food and drink. No-one embarrassed themselves. We’re all a bit old now for that!

That sounds perfect. Casual and fun!
Sounds like a fun time! Is it a little less busy for you guys with the World Cup winding down?
It is, yes, thankfully. The first couple of weeks of the tournament were really full on!
