Morning Free Association: Close Call

Last night the Bruins barely held off the Winnipeg Jets to keep their home streak of 0 regulation losses intact. Perhaps this hectic schedule is wearing Boston down but they have to keep it together for one more game before a three-day hockey-free break.

It didn’t help that the B’s started later that Mark Scheifele did, who scored under the two-minute mark of the game. Just over 5 minutes later, the Jets increased the lead to 2-0 on a goal that was originally credited to Josh Morrissey but was deflected by Jansen Harkins.

You know what they say about a 2-0 lead

The Bruins started to wake up during the first period but took their sweet time before getting on the board. Pasta had had some good chances but finally nailed it at 12:08 in the second. You just can’t do a death drop in front of the goal and give him that much open net!

I think it’s great how Hellebuyck did a death drop to add that extra flourish to Pasta’s goal.

About 3 minutes later on the power play, Jake DeBrusk from Pasta made it a tied game.

Things would stay that way for nearly a period before Uncle Nick, promoting to playing third line wing, batted it home for the game winner.

It’s great that they won and all, but they have to travel to Newark to face the Devils tonight. The Devils started off strong, nearly as good as the B’s or better for the first month plus of the season but they’ve recently fallen on some hard times only winning 3 of their last 10. That was enough to knock them down to second in the Metropolitan behind the Canes. Still the Devils have had the B’d number for the last few seasons and the Bruins will have to start on time and focus to beat them. Tonight’s game is at 7pm.

Merry Holiday to you all. We’ll return on Tuesday to get ready for the tilt at the Senators.

Thank you for the Christmas card LB!

Hope you all have a merry Christmas. Going to watch the special Christmas episode of Murderville (the Will Arnett improv show on Netflix) tonight and then continue my Christmas Eve tradition on Saturday and watch The Nightmare Before Christmas and Rudolph.

Thank you for the Christmas card LB!

Ah great, it arrived in time this year! You’re very welcome.

I’ve been trying to convince Leah to watch the Muppet Christmas Carol. She’s very reluctant to watch anything she hasn’t already seen (which kinda sounds like a paradox but there it is).

A Christmas Story! We ‘ll be watching it later. BTW, Jean Shepard’s books are great light reading. A Christmas Story is parts of several stories lumped together. Shepard had a radio hour in NY (WOR) from 1955 until ’77! Great storyteller

Good morning,
Great game last night, although the Bs slow start had us on tenterhooks all evening. Pasta’s goal should make Sreve Dangle’s list of “Dang its” on the next episode (Thursday). If you’re a goaltender, tend the goal!
Watching the snow melt under torrential rains. Freeze out is on it’s way! The temperature drops out west were crazy… 43 degrees in one hour in Wyoming! Nothing quite that dramatic here, but 30 something degrees over 12 hours, whoa!
Wishing you all great holidays! May they be filled with family, friends, and mirth!

Go easy on the mirth if you’re driving, eh?

Wind has started to pick up this morning. Power’s been flickering a bit. And rain with tons of melting snow has made for one very high Mad River!

Tempted to get on a river, but the unpredictable nature of the freeze has me saying NO!

Morning,

Well it’s good to know the Bruins can win against a good team with a hot goaltender without even having to turn up for the first period!

Swayman allowed two goals on the first four shots – not the first time he’s had a similar start this season, although he wasn’t really at fault for either of them. Credit where it’s due, that first goal was created out of nothing and was just brilliant.

Good to see Kuhlman has landed with a decent team after being waived.

This Devils game looks like a scheduled loss, but who knows? The Bruins don’t read the script this year!

Have a great break, see you Tuesday!
