MFA: Ugh

Last night was not the best showing for the Bruins. After 4 days off before their death march to the playoffs, the Bruins returned to action against a rejuvenated Edmonton Oilers team who’ve upgraded at several positions in the 10 days since these teams last met. It did not go well.

The Bruins started off hemmed in their own zone for the first couple of minutes. Then Brad Marchand scored a fluke goal at 3:51 as both teams were performing shift changes.

After much back and forth throughout the period, David Pastrnak added to the lead with a goal of his own with 0.2 seconds left.

Then the rest of the game happened. Even though the Bruins held Connor McDavid to 1 shot on goal, he didn’t need to factor in the Oilers ability to score. In the second period Evan Bouchard got the Oilers on the board. Then they eventually tied up and took the lead in the third with goals from Ryan MacLeod and Darnell Nurse. No bueno.

The Bruins lost for only the third time in regulation on home ice. Thankfully they seemed to escape injury when Jake DeBrusk collided with Mattias Ekholm in the first period (he returned) and also when Derek Forbort blocked a shot with his hand in the third.

If anyone needs me, I’ll be sleeping under my desk. Zero energy today but at least the skies are blue!

That was a frustrating one. The Bruins seemed to be playing not to lose rather than playing to win for about 35 minutes there. I appreciate that they nullified McDavid, but they needed to put more offensive pressure on the Oilers. They seemed way too satisfied to just get the puck over the opposing blue line and let the Oilers handle it from there.
And that Grzelcyk turnover was brutal. Aaaagh.

It’s a bummer – Mat Porter, I think, laid out a scenario where the Bruins clinched a playoff spot if 3 things happened – Bruins win, Pens beat Isles and Sabres lost. I thought “yeah, sure buddy”, but at the first period break, all 3 games were about 2 goals up in the Bruins favor. Then the Oilers & the Isles came back. Good stuff will happen soon enough, but there was a certain “Charlie Brown & the football” aspect of that.

Good morning,
Oh well, things happen. I’m not ready to say the season is over just yet. I thought the power play did look better. The Bs really contained the Oiler’s top players. The goal that tied it was a little fluky… it’s really okay. Interestinb that the Bs have employed Swayman versus the Oilers… don’t want them to see Ullmark in case the Bs meet Edmonton in the SCF? That’s my theory.
We’re shippin’ up to Boston today! and i’m going to ice skate with Maddie sometime Saturday, i’m told. Also, we get to bring Guapo Diablo home with us! So, even though i don’t like dogs.. smile we will be spoiling the little shit for a week or so. With more snow coming next week (twice!) we may have to keep him an extra week… even though i don’t like dogs… wink

I also noted that, and I like your theory! smile

Boomer has gotten spoiled. He needs to take a pile of medicine right now. The only way he will take it is if we ball up a glob of “wet food” (i.e. ground meat & rice) and hide a pill in there. So now he gets 4 of these meatballs twice a day. He won’t eat his actual breakfast or his evening treats – he just wants his meatballs.
He’s gonna be unbearable when we take him off the meds next week.

I will eat medecine… if it’s in meatballs!
BTW, Boomer is not a dog… not a human… better than that! ❣

I suspect that trick works on Italians as well.

Morning,

disappointing one. Looked a bit messy from the highlights I saw. Still, I think that’s the first time losing in regulation after being two goals up and also the first regulation loss when they led into the third period (I think). For that not to happen until March is still pretty special.

Those stats were thrown at us all night long… it gave one that feeling ….

Yeah, it was pretty annoying. The broadcast team needs some work. The play-by-play (Steve Levy?) had way too much scripted narration by someone who doesn’t seem to know the teams outside of a stat sheet, and while A.J. Mleczko obviously knows her hockey, she was kind of boring. If those two could build some conversational chemistry, it would go a long way.

Steve Levy is actually a great hockey guy… even if he isn’t a great hockey announcer. I know he and Barry Melrose used to own a team…. the Adirondack Frostbite. A friend played for them in the notorius Federal League. Still, it doesn’t make him a good announcer….. sound bites, eh?
