MFA: Still Not Ready

I still don’t want to talk about anything right now. I am majorly bummed.

It’s funny that two people outside of our circle called me to see if I was okay. It’s good to be able to say that you’re sad or mad about a stupid hockey team and that’s about the sum of your complaints.

There hasn’t been official word about other injuries yet, so we have to wait for breakup day(s). Not that it will make anything feel better.

Morning all.

Almost spoiled my appetite for dinner last night. Was making croutons and kept eating the pieces of bread as I was cutting them. And then I had to eat a bunch to make sure they were okay for salads. grin

So having fun this week. We’ve had deep, soaking rain over the weekend, and now the basement is having radon problems. Yesterday the radon detector detected 6.4 pcl (safe is <2, unsafe is >4, our usual reading is ~2.2). So I freaked out a bit, as this is the highest reading I’ve seen, and I had to abandon my home office for the day (which messes me up a lot – I get nothing done when I don’t have both computers & the big screens).

Then in the afternoon, the battery in my radon meter died.
So I began to wonder if I had a false positive. But it takes somewhere around 12 hours before I get a new reading after the unit resets. Well, I’m still getting high readings, though not that high, so no basement office again today. Arrgh.

Jeez, that sounds worrying. What causes that?

Not 100% sure. It seems to come from the bedrock – as if there is radon that seeps into the basalt/granite and comes out over time. So New England homes – which are often built on or partially into ledge – tend to get this stuff leaking into our basements. It hasn’t been a significant problem for us until a month ago.

How do you go about getting rid of it. Air it out?

Essentially. A professional solution is to run a pipe under the foundation and run a fan to pull accumulated gasses up that pipe rather than letting them come through the floor & walls.

Can’t say have a good feel for what radon gas is or why it happens but, as we are built on ledge, i should probably test our basement

Good morning,
Still kinda numb about the Bs. It would be easier if i could be on line for 30 seconds without seeing reminders.
I did watch Jersey take out the Rags last night 4 – 0. Jersey vs the Canes should be quite a matchup.
So i went to vote yesterday and got elected Constable. Yup, there’s a new sherriff – er constable in town. Largely ceremonial. I will have to attend future elections to ensure no one is stealing the elections… unless they are willing to pay a small fee. cool
Constable Joe… has a nice ring to it.

Morning,

Yeah, I’m not too fussed about hearing about injuries. Every team plays through injuries, and if they’re that serious then don’t play. It’s not like this team had no depth.

Something I take away from this is: what’s the point of getting excited about the regular season? What’s the point of the regular season, full-stop? When the only two teams of recent years to win more than three-quarters of their games both get knocked out in the first round – what’s the point of trying to build a great team? Is it all pot luck in the postseason?

I know that massively oversimplifies things but that’s kinda how I’m feeling right now. Will probably change over the coming months.

Something else I’m feeling right now is – better! Hadn’t mentioned it before (we had bigger things going on!) but I’ve had Covid for the past week. Rather worse than last time, but not bad compared to a lot of people. Bad for me though – I haven’t been ill at all since … the last time I had Covid!

I wonder if all the acquisitions upset the chemistry.

Covid.. with us forever. Glad you’re feeling better.

I think the lineup juggling hurt the chemistry. Monty kept mixing it up even into the playoffs – he tried a lot of combos after the acquisitions, he didn’t have cause to keep screwing with it into the playoffs. Taking Frederick out of the lineup for games 5 & 6, and Grzelcyk for game 6 didn’t do them any favors.

I’m not sure what happened to the penalty kill. They were a fortress in the D zone for the games they won. The PK dropped to 50% in the last 3 games of the series. If that didn’t happen, they win each of those last 3 games.

Ugh, that sucks! Glad you’re starting to feel better though. The COVID thing is getting ridiculous. It’s tuning into this stupid thing that everyone’s gonna get every year like a cold, except worse. At least as it stands now, folks largely don’t get sick enough to need hospitalization.

Yeah, all things considered – I’ve had better weekends!

It’s a worry that it’s obviously very virulent. I never get sick. My two Covid bouts are the only two times I’ve been unwell since Leah was little and she used to bring all kinds of bugs back from nursery. You can see why they were particularly keen to protect the immuno-supressed.

Thanks. Sonia is pretty much fully recovered, although she has lost her sense of smell! Hopefully only temporarily.
