Game play in the NHL begins again tonight after a four-day break for the All-Star Game. Tonight’s Bruins game is the first in an away back-to-back; tomorrow night’s game is at the the Capitals. With starting goaltender Tuukka Rask travelling from Los Angeles and current backup Zane McIntyre returning from Pennsylvania after the AHL All Star Game, looks like old friend Anton Khudobin could be back in net tonight. The NHL All Star Game happened this weekend. Did you watch any of it? No? Well, I watched some stuff to see Brad be an All Star, Tuukka, too.
Tonight’s game is the third and final one between the Boston Bruins and the Pittsburgh Penguins this season. Unfortunately, Pittsburgh has asserted their dominance by winning the first two, most recently on Sunday. Needless to say, the Bruins need to win this one to avoid the season sweep and, much more importantly, because they need the points. Currently outside of the playoff structure having played 5 more games than the two teams that are above them, Ottawa and Toronto, the Bruins really fucking need all the points now.
You’ve probably heard by now that top-line LW Brad Marchand is due to have a hearing today regarding his trip on Niklas Kronwall. If you haven’t, here’s the word from the Department of Player Safety (DoPS):
A fully stocked Bruins roster (seriously, everyone’s back from injury) took on an injury-depleted Red Wings team at the Garden last night. Yes, this was the first time the Bruins are injury-free™ for the season. Both Millers returned to game action; Kevan has been out since he was concussed in the game against the Flyers January 14th; Colin Miller suffered a knee injury against the Blues on January 10th.
