After Game 7 spilled into double overtime, the Penguins finally pulled out the win to advance to the Stanley Cup Final. NBC must be breathing a sigh of relief that at least one reliable hockey market will grant them ratings for this series. Don’t get me wrong, while I believe that they’ve become a hockey town, Nashville is still not the broadcast market that Pittsburgh is. Nashville did it; they made it to the Stanley Cup Final. Last night the Toothy Cats advanced by beating the Anaheim Ducks with Colton Sissons’ hat trick, two by Austin Watson, and an additional empty net goal by Filip Forsberg. It was a beautiful win. Continue reading
It’s Memorial Cup time! After the P-Bruins picked up Zach Senyshyn and Jesse Gabrielle from their respective junior teams, the Bruins are down to one player left playing in the junior leagues: Jakub Zboril. Winners of the Presidents Cup in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, the Saint John Sea Dogs are the Q’s representative to the tournament this year.
David Pastrnak, Charlie McAvoy, and Anders Bjork have all played their last game in the 2017 IIHF World Championships. Team USA fell to Finland 0-2. The Czech Republic lost 1-3 to Switzerland. The Worlds semi-finals will have Canada against Russia and Sweden at Finland on Saturday with the medal round on Sunday.
