Morning Free Association: Mixed Bag

After what seemed like a few years in between games, the Boston Bruins played two games this weekend back-to-back. This lull in the schedule is the last we’ll see for a while.

On Saturday, the Bruins fully beat the stuffing out of the Flyers 5-2 in Philly, including 2 goals from offensive powerhouse Derek Forbort. Charlie McAvoy fought! These two teams hate each other. Linus Ullmark finally looked great.

Then back home on Sunday, the Flames had their way with the B’s, 4-0. Jeremy Swayman got little help from his seemingly befuddled teammates, especially in a sequence that saw him give up a SHG and shortly after, another goal when in each instance his team served up the puck to a Flames player in their own zone. At least old pal Dan Vladar had himself a game and a shutout.

The Bruins are back in action the day before and after Thanksgiving this week.

Last week saw the return of free agent goalie Tuukka Rask to the ice at Warrior Arena prior to Bruins practice. Rask is hoping for a mid-season return to the Boston Bruins and potentially a spot on the Finnish men’s national team for the Olympics. Continue reading

And of course, Bruins fans are glad that the preseason is winding down and that the new season is mercifully only 12 days away. Continue reading

Morning Free Association: Sweeney Signed Some Guys

The early part of Free Agency was a bit slow moving if you were a Bruins fan. Prior to the official start time of noon, all the hockey insiders were having a ball on Twitter leaking all the signings they knew and some of talks they heard about. Of course, the Bruins were mentioned in the same breath as players that would go elsewhere: Blake Coleman who ended up with the Flames, Jake McCabe ended up with the Blackhawks, etc. But things started heating up around 3pm and to be honest, I’m not sure I understand all of the moves but Satan81 tells me that they’re fantastic.
