Morning Free Association: Almost Krakened

Last night was not a great night for the Boston Bruins. The best part of the night was that it was “Hockey is for Everyone Night” which has evolved into a night including Pride Night within it to stress that anyone who has the passion for hockey regardless of gender, sexuality, or ethnicity has a home with the Boston Bruins and in the NHL. The worst part would have to be the Bruins defensive zone play in the third period. Continue reading

Morning Free Association: Oops

Uh huh. Guess who forgot to write up anything last night?

In fairness, I didn’t watch the game. You all remember how much I hate the Minnesota Mild after watching the most miserable playoff series of the 2015-16 season, the one in which Minnesota played the most lackluster and boring hockey one could imagine and still didn’t get swept by the Dallas Stars. Playoff hockey is supposed to be exciting. It definitely wasn’t. That I “had” to write it all up made me watch, so, yeah shame on me I guess. Continue reading

Morning Free Association: No Hockey Until After Christmas

It’s official: the Boston Bruins have been shut down due to their COVID issues until after Christmas. The news came down Friday after the Bruins returned home from New York after playing and losing a game with only 17/18 skaters. Their game on Saturday at the Montreal Canadiens was postponed to a future date by the NHL as was the matchup against against the Colorado Avalanche on December 23rd at the Garden. But that left two games in between: at Ottawa and against the Hurricanes. Well, the NHL postponed those as well, effectively shutting down the team until December 26th. Practice is also cancelled. The Bruins have a first-round (21), third-round (85), fourth-round (117), fifth-round (149), sixth-round (181), and 2 seventh-round (213 and 217 from TML from 2020) picks. Continue reading

Morning Free Association: Breakup Day

So Friday was breakup day for the Boston Bruins and in some ways, that is truer than ever. With three big UFAs this year, including two that have been on the roster since before the Stanley Cup championship of 2011, there could be a major shakeup ahead. Continue reading

Morning Free Association: How Many Overtimes?

Right now as I write this, the Boston Bruins and Washington Capitals are heading for double overtime for the first time in this series. Each of these first three games has needed extra time for a team to win it; the first only 4 minutes or so, the second under a minute, this 20+ minutes. I know this game started just after 6:30pm but BRUINS I’M TIRED.
