The NHL has been on pause officially since March 12. During this time NHL players have been encouraged to self-isolate in a place of their choosing. Many foreign-born players have returned to their native countries. Not Zdeno Chara, who decided that while the NHL is on this extended and uncertain break, he would head to his home in Florida. There the kids have more room to roam about in beautiful weather and he can relax, train, and enjoy some un-New England-like weather. Continue reading

Morning Free Association: What NHL Players Are Doing Right Now

Credentialed NHL writers have been scrambling with much success to write about other aspects of the NHL: the teams, players, and other employees affected by the COVID-19 outbreak. So far 4 NHL players have tested positive for the virus: 2 on the Avalanche and 2 on the Senators. These positive tests coincide with the last two home games that the San Jose Sharks played before the league shut down due to the pandemic. Of course, San Jose and the greater Bay Area of California are places that have been hit hard by the outbreak. Zdeno Chara was sidelined for Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals with some kind of injury. As to what it is, it’s anybody’s guess.

This weekend, he was spotted skating with Steven Kampfer prior to practice at Warrior Arena. Chara did not skate with the group. On Monday, that changed.
